What Has Been Bringing Me JOY
We began Embodied Alchemy this month, and what a magnificent cohort it is! It has been a JOY to feel the energy of the beautiful humans stepping into this 9 week challenge in community.
This months full moon on the 26th of September, landing just after the Autumn Equinox is The Moon of the Sacred Web, and is in Libra. This moon is about the web of connection, reminding us that nothing is created alone… And just like the Fibonacci sequence, we build on each aligned action we take, and that every choice and action we take ripples outwards to our community. It is a great time for finding the balance between building relationships and honouring our own boundaries and intuition.
What Have You Been Journeying?
On Thursday, inside Embodied Alchemy, we were talking about fuel for the fire… how the mountains we climb make us appreciate the magical moments even more, and how we can use the energy of conflict or challenge to create what we would love…
Then less that 22 hours later, I experienced that as a real-time lesson: on the way to the land where Mooji is based (having met him at the Festival de Bem Estar the week before and been invited for a visit), we got a flat tyre. We got the flat only 6 minutes away by car to the location, and it wasnt just a small puncture it was a full on rip! And suddenly we were stuck…
But I knew what I would love… and I held the end result…
What unfolded were multiple reminders of the magic… From Fernando and Fernando from the local GNR (police), to a garage who gifted us a temporary tyre so we could keep driving out of remote Portugal enough to find a tyre that would get us all the way back to Lisbon. By 4pm we were with Mooji, and the next four hours were pure magic. (See the fuller story here)
I have also been experiencing the alchemy with my singing…
I have been taking singing lessons for a long while now (with the amazing Lauren), but I have had this story that I have stage fright and cannot sing in public…
It is a little ironic, because I spent 20 years on stage as a dancer… but when it has come to sharing my voice, I have been more in the fear than what I would love.
But then, a few weeks ago on The JOY Hour podcast, I interviewed Giel, who runs the open mic night The Shift. I told her on air that I would love to be fearless and sing at her event… Then last month, when I interviewed Nicolas from Atelier NAF I mentioned it again and it became obvious it was calling me…
So this month… I did it… Twice!
The first time, I asked my singing teacher if I could turn a vocal warm-up winto a song… and I stretched it out… and it grew into four verses, a hook, and a chorus around the theme “Something’s Coming”…
Then… as a literal end of an era is happening in my life right now, I wrote a new song called, “End of an Era”!
Inside I was terrified both times… And it wasn’t perfect, but I faced the fear! It is like the Fibonacci sequence: 0,1,1,2,3,5,8 (and so on) we all have to start somewhere. This month, I made 1 & 1!
And there couldn’t have been a more amazing audience and place to do it! (Check out my first (perfectly imperfect!) song here)
It’s the End of an Era
And yes, after years moving between Lisbon, Leeds, and London, I am coming into a completion… this chapter of my life is closing while Ahmad and I align our lives together…
As Anaïs Nin wrote: “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage”, and I really have learnt that this month…
Even Ed Sheeran reminded me this… that when we stay quiet as he did whilst Macklemore stood up for what he believed in, when we don’t speak our truth, we abandon our sovereignty… we abandon our heart…
So here is your reminder to listen to the whisper of your heart…
To show up uncomfortably…
To get it wrong… To fail even… but do it… Speak your truth… Stand for what you believe in… and create so you can move out of victimhood and into Creativehood! ❤️
Creating is the best way out of fear and into JOY and when we refocus all that stuck scared energy into doing what we love, everything starts changing…
